About the Presentation

Every year The Theosophical Society members worldwide meet together to celebrate Adyar Day. This evening we pay our respects to Theosophical Society heroes – Col. Olcott, first President & Civil War hero, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Indian philosopher, and Giordano Bruno burned at the stake for voicing a radical idea that the world was round. Their legacy lives on by many known and unknown dedicated members.

About Adyar Day

February 17 is the day on which members of the Theosophical Society honour the passing of Col. Henry S. Olcott (1842-1907), the President-Founder of the TS from 1875 to 1907 whose inestimable contribution to the Theosophical Society will be honoured by Jean Carroll and friends at Sunhine Coast Lodge on 18 February. Olcott's Old Diary Leaves represents one of the best, most entertaining, most realistic and at the same time most romantic accounts of the early days of the Theosophical Society and his deep friendship with H.P. Blavatsky.

February 17 is also the day on which J. Krishnamurti (1895-1986) passed away. Jiddu Krishnamurti was a philosopher-sage (for want of better words) with a close connection to the Theosophical Society, who for over 60 years inspired countless seekers with his insights into the spiritual life — questioning our reliance on belief and knowledge, pointing out the inherent limitations of thought, and exploring the human condition with scientists, pundits, and a range of public intellectuals around the world, His works include First and Last FreedomThe Awakening of Intelligence and Freedom from the Known.
